Producer and owner of Blueskin Films, Catherine Fitzgerald is an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit for services to film, a Member of the Asia Pacific Screen Academy and received “South Pacific Pictures Award For Achievement In Film 2014” (WIFT NZ Awards) and SPADA NZ Independent Producer Of The Year Award 2011, among other prizes and honours.
Catherine chairs the New Zealand Film Festival Trust and Playmarket, is a Board member of SPADA and has consulted for the Berlinale NATIVe and served on their Generation Jury. Her other governance roles have included the NZ Film Commission, Dunedin College of Education, The Film School, and WIFTNZ. Prior to establishing her film company, she held senior executive positions in development and strategic policy at the NZFC, in the review of broadcasting as a consultant to the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, and worked in both strategy and audio visual production in tertiary education.
Established in 2002, Catherine’s company, Blueskin Films has an international award-winning feature, short and documentary slate. The films have participated worldwide including the Berlin, Venice, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto Film Festivals and the Academy Awards: the full suite of A list festivals.
The company currently has, in active advanced development, co-productions with Scotland, China, Korea, Italy-Netherlands as well as specifically New Zealand projects.
Catherine also mentors selected new producers.
Blueskin Films’ latest release is feature drama ONE THOUSAND ROPES with writer/director Tusi Tamasese (THE ORATOR) and producer Catherine Fitzgerald (Panorama Special Berlinale 2017).
