
Becs Arahanga (Kai Tahu, Waitaha, Ngāti Raukawa) has burst onto the film and television scene with three films in two years. With an instinctual knack for story, comedy and a strong understanding for the human condition, Becs recently co-directed/wrote multi-award-winning feature film, Vai and short film Hinekura, which won the audience choice and civic awards at NZIFF 2019. Her first short film, Laundry – about a mother struggling to have a sex life whilst raising kids, was selected as part of NZ Best at NZIFF 2016 and was nominated for four awards at Show Me Shorts – Best Film, Best Director, Best Writer and Best Editor.
Becs is incredibly passionate about telling heartfelt and real stories, uplifting and celebrating women and indigenous voices.
