Fergus Barrowman

Fergus Barrowman has been the Publisher of Victoria University Press, New Zealand’s leading publisher of new fiction and poetry, since 1985. His publishing highlights include Emily Perkins’ debut Not Her Real Name, The Vintner’s Luck by Elizabeth Knox, and Eleanor Catton’s The Luminaries, which received the 2013 Man Booker Prize.

Fergus founded and continues to edit the literary magazine Sport. His book Great Sporting Moments: The Best of Sport Magazine 1988-2004 (edited by Damien Wilkins) won the 2006 Montana New Zealand Book Award for Reference and Anthology. Fergus also edited The Picador Book of Contemporary New Zealand Fiction (1996), and has contributed to the teaching and assessment of the VUW creative writing programme for 30 years. He is married to the novelist Elizabeth Knox.
