Jennifer Kent

Jennifer Kent graduated from NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) as an actor and has worked extensively in theatre, film and TV in Australia. In 2002, Jennifer undertook a directing attachment with Lars von Trier on the feature film DOGVILLE, starring Nicole Kidman.

She has since been writing and developing her own film projects. Jennifer’s award-winning short film MONSTER was screened at over forty international festivals including Telluride and Aspen Shortsfest. She was one of the directors on TWO TWISTED, a series of TWILIGHT ZONE style thrillers produced by Bryan Brown for Channel Nine Australia.

Jennifer completed the five month intensive script program at the Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam (2010), where she developed her psychological horror feature script THE BABADOOK. THE BABADOOK was completed in 2013 and premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January 2014. It has traveled to many festivals around the world since including New Directors/New Films (New York City), Gerardmer Fantasy Film Festival in France (where it took out 4 of the 5 awards presented), Puchon Fantastic Film Festival (Korea), and Frightfest (UK) where the film picked up best actress, best director and best film. Other upcoming festivals include Fantasy Fest (US), and Sitges (Spain.)

Jennifer is currently working on two new feature scripts, continuing her commitment to telling stories she feels passionate about. Aside from her writing and directing work, Jennifer is a highly regarded acting/directing teacher, working both in Australia and Paris.
