Kath Akuhata-Brown

Kath Akuhata-Brown (Ngati Porou) Kath’s career as a filmmaker spans 35 years and includes the making of shortfilms, documentaries, drama and commercials. These include the award winning short films Washday and Purea, drama Kairakau, and as a Director’s attachment on New Zealand’s first international indigenous co-production Night Raiders.

Kath’s name has become synonymous with projects that are culturally poetic and meaningful. She was a lecturer in screenwriting at Unitech, Industry Advisory to the University of Auckland, has been a script assessor and script executive for national funding bodies and an advocate on Industry guilds.
