Mahuia Bridgman-Cooper is a notable figure in the Aotearoa music scene with award winning work as a composer, violinist, producer arranger and collaborator. He is a founding member of The Black Quartet, an innovative string quartet which specialises in contemporary and original repertoire. Mahuia’s diverse experience includes writing and producing for various artists such as LAB, Maisey Rika and TEEKS. His substantial film and television background includes composing scores for directors Roseanne Liang (Creamerie, Shadow in the Cloud, Do No Harm), Lee Tamahori (Mahana), Gerard Johnston (Housebound, Terry Teo) and Tearapa Kahi (Muru) among others. He is also a sought-after arranger and orchestrator, having collaborated regularly with both The Auckland Philharmonia and The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
