
Michael Stephens is a leading New Zealand film and entertainment lawyer and executive producer. Michael has been closely involved supporting the development of New Zealand’s film production and digital entertainment sector and its links with Asia. He is the founding principal of Stephens Lawyers, and has a personal and professional interest in the future of Asia Pacific Film co-productions, and funding for film, documentary, animation, games and other digital media projects.
Michael’s current interests include acting as legal counsel and a director for a number of New Zealand film and digital entertainment companies, and as the Chairman of the Korean Cinerama Trust New Zealand. He is also a Board Member of the NZ Film and Literature Board of Review, Honorary Adviser to the New Zealand/China Film Festivals, and an International Delegate for the Shanghai International Film Festival.
In addition to on-going legal work on a number of film related matters, completed film and media projects Michael has been involved producing include the recent NZ/HK film ETERNITY, feature documentaries US AND THE GAMES INDUSTRY and MOVING as well as BLACK SHEEP, I’M NOT HARRY JENSON, LAST OF THE LIVING and, WHEN NIGHT FALLS.
