Scott Ryan is an award-winning Australian actor, writer and director. He is best known for his work as the writer and star of black comedy-crime show Mr Inbetween.
Mr. Inbetween, created by Ryan, was commissioned by US cable channel FX and was renewed for a third season in 2020. Mr. Inbetween follows Ray Shoesmith (played by Ryan), a father, ex-husband, boyfriend and best friend: tough roles to juggle in the modern age. Even harder when you’re a criminal for hire. All 3 seasons of the show were written by Ryan and directed and executive produced by Nash Edgerton (a founding member of Blue-Tongue Films).
In 2019, Scott won an AACTA Award for Best Lead Actor in Television Drama and a Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Actor for his work in Mr Inbetween. In 2018, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts named him the Best New Talent and he was nominated for two AACTA Awards for Best Screenplay in Television and Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama; and was nominated for an Australian Writers’ Guild Award for Comedy, all for Mr Inbetween.
Scott Ryan was also the writer, director, producer, editor and star in the no-budget film The Magician (a mockumentary about the same laconic hitman). The film was a festival hit taking away three awards (Best Actor, Best Director and Best Film) at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival and nominations for two IF Awards (Best Actor and Independent Spirit Award). The film provided a proof of concept for Mr. Inbetween.
