Sophie Henderson

Sophie Henderson works as a writer and actor in the film, television and theatre industries in New Zealand. Her first screenplay, FANTAIL was nominated for 8 NZ Film Awards, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best Actress and was invited to have its International premiere at Rotterdam Film Festival. FANTAIL had a nationwide cinema release this winter and traveled to the Melbourne International Film Festival in August where it picked up a People’s Choice award.

Sophie’s other writing includes her play, I CAMPING, collaborating with Theatre Beating on MILK and RUMPLESTILTS and devising BASED ON AUCKLAND with Silo theatre. Her first short film, $1 RESERVE is currently in post-production.

Sophie can also be seen in a number of local film and television productions including; THE BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES, FANTAIL, UNDERBELLY, AUCKLAND DAZE, THE MOST FUN YOU CAN HAVE DYING, PIECE OF MY HEART, THIS IS NOT MY LIFE, THE JAQUIE BROWN DIARIES and the short films DANCERS and HAURAKI. Sophie is best known for playing, Cheryl’s lawyer, Bailey Wilson in the final season of OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE.

A finalist in the 2014 SWANZ awards, Sophie was nominated for Best Feature Film Script for FANTAIL.

Sophie also works as the Programming and Artist Development Manager at The Basement theatre.
