Welby Ings

Welby Ings is an award-winning writer and director with numerous prize-winning short film credits. His recent short Sparrow, produced with Robin Murphy, was an official selection at over 80 festivals and has won 20 international awards. Welby is also a multi-award-winning academic and Professor of Graphic Design at Auckland University of Technology, who described him as a “disobedient innovator”. In 2005, Welby completed a PhD that examined the structure and profiles of narrative music videos and television commercials. 

 Welby is also a fellow of the UK’s Royal Society of Arts, which acts as a consultant to numerous international organisations on issues of creativity and learning. He is a widely acknowledged queer activist whose advocacy, protests, and arrests date back to the early days of the Gay Liberation movement. PUNCH is his first feature film.
