New Zealand Film Commission Scholarships

The New Zealand Film Commission is offering 30 scholarships to attend the Big Screen Symposium in Auckland on the 9th and 10th of October. 10 of these scholarships are available directly through the NZFC Talent Development Team (please see below for details), and 20 scholarships are available through industry organisation partners (5 per organisation); Women In Film & Television (WIFT), Pan-Asian Screen Collective (PASC), Pacific Island Screen Artists Group (PISA) and Ngā Aho Whakaari. Please contact them directly for more details.

Each scholarship will include a ticket to the two-day event. If you live outside the Auckland region, there is also travel grant as a contribution towards your travel costs. $250 is available if travelling from the North Island, and $350 if travelling from the South Island.

Additional accessibility funding support is also available for those who require it. This could include, but not limited to, childcare or other accessibility needs.

To apply for the NZFC Talent Development BSS Scholarships, visit NZFC’s online portal. Please note that you must create a user account in order to apply.

Applications open 12pm Thurs 16th July and close at 12pm on Monday 17th August, with decisions announced the week of the 24th August.

Applicants are welcome to apply through both the NZFC and/or partner organisations (WIFTPASCPISANgā Aho Whakaari).

As part of your application, you must include:

  • A one-page resume.
  • A statement outlining why you want to attend.
  • An overview of your current position in the industry and what you are currently working on.
  • How you anticipate this industry conference, in particular, will contribute to your career development.

Otago Southland Regional Scholarship

Film Otago Southland is offering one scholarship to attend the Big Screen Symposium in Auckland on the 9th and 10th of October. The scholarship will cover 1 x ticket to the two-day industry event and offer a $300 travel bursary to contribute toward travel and accommodation costs. 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be based in Otago and Southland
  • Applicants must primarily work in or with the screen industry, or be actively working towards a career in the screen industry
  • Applicants must be available and able to commit to attending the conference on the 9th and 10th of October 2020

To apply you’ll need to send the following to info@filmotagosouthland.com:

  • An up-to-date resume
  • A personal statement (approx. 200 – 500 words) explaining why you want to attend the event and how it might contribute to your career development
  • Confirmation that you can travel during the event dates

Entries must be received by Monday 10th of August

Christchurch Regional Scholarship

Screen Canterbury is offering one scholarship to attend the Big Screen Symposium in Auckland on the 9th and 10th of October. The scholarship will cover 1 x ticket to the two-day industry event and offer a $200 travel bursary to contribute toward travel and accommodation costs.  

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be based in Canterbury and the West Coast. 
  • Applicants must primarily work in or with the screen industry, or be actively working towards a career in the screen industry.
  • Applicants must be available and able to commit to attending the conference on the 9th and 10th of October 2020

To apply you’ll need to send the following:

  • An up-to-date resume.
  • A personal statement (approx. 200 – 500 words) explaining why you want to attend the event and how it might contribute to your career development.
  • Confirmation that you can travel during the event dates

Entries must be received by Monday 10th of August
