These special Close Up sessions are practical interactive workshops or intimate conversations between the participants and the guest speaker. To be eligible to book in for Close Up sessions you need to have bought your ticket by 9am Friday 19 Oct. Bookings will open at 3pm Friday Oct 19 and will be taken on a first in first booked basis. Spaces are limited to 15, and each ticket holder cannot attend more than one Close Up. Full information about how to book is below. This session for producers focused on the business of getting feature films off the ground in an increasingly cluttered international marketplace. Tim White is plugged into what’s happening in the global market and who the key players are when it comes to financing your project. He will address current trends and opportunities using his latest project, I AM MOTHER, an AUD13m sci-fi film from first time feature director Grant Sputore, as an example. Participants will be invited to send in a question about their own project and Tim will answer as many as possible.

Non-indigenous filmmakers have been telling screen stories that shape our history. This session is about the truth of storytelling and how important it is, once you have found your voice, to tell the truth to help set history right.

In this workshop Briar uses discussion and exercises to look at how stories can be found in unexpected places. Participants explore what might seem like mundane moments between characters, and how those small moments can provide power and poignancy.

If you are interested in working at the edge of yourself, connecting deeply with truth and being able to generate a flow of authentic ideas – then you have no choice but to develop curiosity into a core craft skill. This 70 minute workshop with story and performance specialist, Brita McVeigh, will focus on what can happen if you harness your curiosity inside your work.
